How I Work
Burning Oat Hulls with a blow torch to Make ash for glazes
I design wheel thrown pieces and then I glaze and decorate them using raw materials I have sourced and processed locally. Influenced by a visit to Skellig Michael and the monks use of the landscape around them to survive, I collect, harvest and dig up materials before refining and processing them to make Glazes, slip and Terra sigillata. My forms and colours are reflective of the kerry landscape and are decorated using the glazes and slips I have created. I marry the form to the glaze whose temperament will suit the shape and mood of the piece, however some of the outcome is lef left to chance and to the whims of these naturally sourced elements.

Working in this way combines my love of being outdoors with my interest in glaze alchemy and I am actively involved from ground to finished piece.
